AAP Section on Neurological Surgery

Joseph Piatt, MD

In October 2008 Mark Dias, MD, took on the responsibilities of the chair of the Executive Committee of the Section on Neurological Surgery, SONS, of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Joseph Piatt, MD, will stay on as immediate past chair. David Gruber, MD, and John Ragheb, MD, were elected to fill positions vacated by Marion Walker, MD, and Hector James, MD, who rotated off the Executive Committee after long tours of duty.

For an update on the work of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the activities of the SONS, plan to attend the annual Business Meeting, which will be held at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 (location to be announced), in Spokane, Wash., in conjunction with the meeting of the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery. Dr. Walker and Dr. James will be recognized for their leadership and labors in the founding of the SONS.

Also highlighting the Spokane meeting will be a guest lecture by Renee Jenkins, MD, FAAP, immediate past-president of the AAP, who will speak on a topic of pediatric health policy. Her appearance will be sponsored jointly by the SONS and the AANS/CNS Pediatric Section.
