1945 TAKE OFF - NEW HAVEN TO SORRENTO, MAINE

New Haven - Sorrento Used most of New Haven Harbor. A long, difficult, bumpy job, one minute ten seconds required. Fuel load 240 gallons (6300 lbs.). Hope we have nothing worse or we shall surely break up. A slow pull for altitude, 1200 feet at 2005 running at only 1660 rpm however. Motor oil temp 175°F which is fairly high. Strong tail wind and we must make the most of it.

2100 - Time tick from NAA* on 9050 kc. Band D, dial 16.5 clocks

2102 - Contact ISZ* using 5515 kc. And sent following messages:

2216 - took course at C. Elizabeth

2220 - Portland abeam.

2224 - Casco Bay Light. Draft - 11°, steer 71°.

2236 - noticably off course to west.
