Scientific Statement on Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms

The American Heart Association (AHA) has published a Scientific Statement on Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms.

The project was commissioned by the AHA, and took place under the auspices of the AANS/CNS Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery.

Among a number of important recommendations the writing group concluded that "special consideration for treatment" should be given to "young patients" with incidental aneurysms less than 10 mm in diameter.

The writing group was chaired by Joshua Bederson, M.D., and included the following members:

Issam A. Awad, M.D.; David O. Wiebers, M.D.; David Piepgras, M.D.; E. Clarke Haley, M.D.; Thomas Brott, M.D.; George Hademenos, Ph.D.; Douglas Chyatte, M.D.; Robert Rosenwasser, M.D.; and Cynthia Caroselli Ph.D, R.N.

The paper can be viewed in its entirety by clicking on the following link: http://stroke.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/31/11/2742
