Mahaley Clinical Award: Named in memory of neurosurgeon, Dr. Steven Mahaley, a long-devoted neuro-oncologist, the Mahaley Clinical Research Award is given at each AANS and CNS annual meeting to a neurosurgical resident or attending neurosurgeon who presents the best clinical study in neuro-oncology who presents the best clinical research paper in the field. The Award is sponsored by the National Brain Tumor Foundation.

Preuss Award: Established in 1990 by a longtime benfactor of the Joint Tumor Section, Mr. Peter Preuss, the Preuss award is given annually at the AANS and CNS meetings to a young scientist within ten years of training investigating brain tumors who has submitted the best basic science research paper

Farber Award: Sponsored by the Farber Foundation, the Farber Awardee is selected by a subcommittee from the Joint Section on Tumors and the Society for Neuro-Oncology and is presented at the annual meeting of the respective societies on alternating years. The award recognizes the most promising new investigators who are achieving significant results early in their careers.

Young Investigator Award: Sponsored by the American Brain Tumor Association, the Young Investigator Award is given annually at the AANS and CNS to a young faculty member in neurosurgery who has been in practice for less than six years and who has demonstrated outstanding potential for basic science research in the field of neuro-oncology.

National Brain Tumor Foundation Translational Research Grant Award: A certificate and grant is awarded to the best translational research proposal on brain tumors. Proposals that bring novel laboratory research findings to clinical trial are preferred. Primary investigators must be practicing neurosurgeons within the first six years of their career.

The Integra Foundation Award: The Integra Foundation Award is a new award beginning in 2005 to be presented at both the AANS and CNS meetings recognizing a high ranking abstract focused on basic science or clinical research of benign brain and peripheral nerve tumors. Awardees may be residents, attending or basic scientists who are members of the section. The monetary award is $1,000. The award is given annually and once to an individual.
