Historic Boston is the venue for the 2009 Annual Meeting of the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery. The meeting will run from Dec. 1 to Dec. 4 and will take place at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
A full-day seminar oriented to nurses and physician assistants immediately precedes the main event. The exciting scientific program continues over the next three days, with the Raimondi lecture on Thursday, Dec. 3. The meeting concludes with a half-day symposium on the management of children with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Charles D. Stiles, PhD, will deliver the Raimondi Lecture. Dr. Stiles is professor of microbiology and molecular genetics at Harvard Medical School. He is one of two co-leaders of the neuro-oncology program at the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. He has had a long-standing interest in brain development and neuro-oncology and has been instrumental in the development of "smart drugs"—genetically targeted compounds that can kill tumor cells without causing collateral damage to normal cells.
The central location of the Boston Marriott Copley Place is within walking distance of the Public Garden, historic Beacon Hill, and dining and shopping areas. There will be opportunities for organized tours of Beacon Hill and some of the many museums in Boston as part of the social program. Boston can provide entertainment for sports fans (the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics), art and music lovers (the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of James Levine) and shoppers.
Of note, the American Epilepsy Society is holding its annual meeting Dec. 4–8 at the Hynes Convention Center, next door to the Marriott.
You can register for the Pediatric Section meeting online at www.pedsneurosurgery.org/meeting.asp.
Please join us in Boston Dec. 1-4, 2009, for an exciting meeting.
Liliana Goumnerova, MD, is chair of the 2009 Annual Meeting of the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
