Winter Meeting 2010

Join Us in Austin November 29-December 2, 2011

Austin, the capital of Texas, is the venue for the 2011 Annual Winter Meeting of the AANS/CNs Section of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. The meeting runs from Tuesday, November 29 through Friday, December 2, 2011.

Timothy George, MD
Our meeting chair, Timothy George, M.D., has put together a dynamic program with some exciting speakers. This year's annual meeting theme, I Am Champion, will be presented in a series of challenging talks by leading experts in the nation. The Raimondi Lecture will be presented by Mack Brown, head coach of the University of Texas Longhorns, who will discuss Sports-related Concussive Brain Injuries: A Coach's Perspective. The Section on Neurological Surgeons of the American Academy of Pediatrics lecture will be given by Francisco Cigarroa, MD, Chancellor of the University of Texas System, who will discuss The Future of Academic Medicine in a Changing Healthcare Environment. A special lecture will be given by Ben Carson, MD, entitled The Importance of Impacting the World Outside of Neurosurgery.

You will not want to miss a special Thursday evening with Grammy Award winning blues artist Jimmie Vaughan. An evening to remember!

We are excited to be providing an informative midlevel practitioner seminar focusing on the challenges in patient care and healthcare delivery. We will also be holding a special coding course directed towards pediatric neurosurgery and looking towards the future with an ICD-10 overview.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to honor Mike Scott, M.D., neurosurgeon-in-chief at The Children’s Hospital Boston for his years of dedication and service to Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has advanced our field through his dedication and hard work over a long career. His legacy includes the development and training of numerous pediatric neurosurgeons both from the United States and internationally. I know that we will all welcome the chance to honor Dr. Scott with the Franc Ingraham Award for Distinguished Service and Achievement.

Austin is a vibrant and exciting city. As the capital and home to the University of Texas there is an energy about Austin that is irresistible. It is home to 200 live music venues, a wide variety of cuisines (from tex-mex to fine dining), extensive art and culture, and wonderful outdoor activities. The weather should be pleasant (40’s to 70’s) for enjoying the city during your free time.

The Hilton Austin is located in the bustling downtown, only one block from Austin’s famous Sixth Street nightlife and a short stroll from the entertainment, shopping and dining in the Warehouse Entertainment District and 2nd Street District.
